This position is responsible for assisting with the animal care and animal collections for the Bramble Park Zoo; providing a safe, sustainable, and attractive recreational opportunities for residents and the general public. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be required and assigned.- Ensures a safe and excellent customer service experience to our residents, members and patrons.
- Provides food preparation, feeding, animal husbandry, and maintenance of animal exhibits.
- Be in compliance with USDA and AZA rules and regulations.
- Perform daily observation of animals to identify normal and abnormal behaviors related to husbandry/health issues.
- Communicates questions or concerns regarding medical, health and welfare issues of specimens in collection to supervisor. Assists with treatment as directed by veterinarian.
- Maintains animal health records and animal activity records.
- Provides proper enrichment for animals based on their protocols and needs.
- Perform in public speaking engagements.
- Responds to customer complaints and/or concerns in a professional manner. Advises supervisor(s) of complaints and/or concerns.
- Maintains animal supplies as needed.
- Provides backup assistance to other department personnel as needed.
- Performs grounds care, custodial, light maintenance services in and around exhibits and as needed around the zoo.
- Inspects, cleans, and performs preventive maintenance or repair on equipment used.
- Ensures all activities are carried out in a safe manner; adheres to all safety regulations; ensures all regulations pertaining to the safe use of equipment are understood and followed.
- Reports all accidents to the appropriate authority. Follows all policies for reporting.
- Other duties as assigned.
