5 Days A Week Zookeeper (Temporary 6 Month Position)

Rate of Pay:  Wage depending on experience and availability

Hours:   Five 8 hour days in a seven day period. May include weekends and holidays.  The position is a temporary 6 month position starting from the time of hire.

Duties:  Under the supervision of zoo personnel:

  1. Assist with routine food preparation, feeding, animal husbandry and maintenance of animal exhibits; assist in compliance with AZA rules and regulations.
  2. Assist with daily operational needs of equipment, buildings, exhibits and grounds.
  3. Assist in monitoring and implementing animal health programs; work with zoo veterinarians and other medical personnel to ensure the proper care and health of the animal collection.
  4. Assist with public speaking engagements.
  5. Perform landscaping and grounds duties as directed.
  6. Other duties that pertain to the daily operation of a zoological park.

Desirable Minimum Qualifications:  Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED certificate; some animal care experience or be able to demonstrate an ability to work with zoo animals; the ability to lift 75lbs; and must have a valid driver’s license.

Part-time Visitor’s Service Worker

Rate of Pay:  $9.30 – $9.50 per hour, depending on experience.

Hours:  April – September; hours vary between 7:00 am – 9:30 pm; weekdays, weekends and holidays; possibly weekends year-round.

Duties:  Under the supervision of the Office/Visitor’s Services Manager and zoo personnel, the daily operation of the admissions, concessions and gift areas.  This will include, but is not limited to, the following:

  1. Operation of the cash registers and concession equipment
  2. Taking admissions and concession/gift shop money
  3. Providing concessions, gifts and general information to the public
  4. Opening and closing routines
  5. Maintenance of a clean facility
  6. Selling Lake Area Zoological Society memberships
  7. May assist with educational programs
  8. Other duties as assigned

Desirable Minimum Qualifications:  Applicants must be at least 16 years of age; must demonstrate the ability to operate a cash register and other concession equipment; must be accurate with admissions and revenues; must have a working knowledge of positive public relations; must be able to give directions to patrons.
